We are once again humbled and proud to announce that for the second year in a row, we have won the Couples Choice Award from Wedding Wire, the leading source for brides and grooms when it comes to choosing wedding vendors.
Winning this award means we were regarded as being in the top 5% in our category based on reviews from past clients.
We love doing weddings and take great pride in our services. We are honored to have won this award once again and hope to continue making brides (and grooms) happy for many years to come.
We are happy to announce that, after a year of talking and figuring out the details, we have finally and officially partnered up with Shepherd Community. Once a month we will be out at their east side location providing free haircuts to those who benefit from their ministry.
Another way we have teamed up is through the launch of a brand new campaign, Bring it Home For the Homeless. Whenever you go on vacation, bring home those unused travel toiletries provided by the hotel and drop them off in the collection basket. Those items are then given away to homeless people as a way of showing the love of Jesus and letting them know that they are not forgotten. As of right now, we are the only drop off location, however we are working to get other local businesses involved. So, if you are or know a business owner who might want to get involved, get in touch with me. I would love to see this take off and grow state wide or even nation wide. How awesome would it be if everyone was giving, even in just a small way, to local shelters all across the country to show love to those less fortunate? Help spread the word by sharing this link and don't forget to bring in your donations.
Owner of Elegant Hair Designs
A lot of brides stress about finding the perfect hairstyle for their wedding. Then, once they think they have found it, they stress over finding the perfect stylist who can give them that perfect hairstyle. Here are some tips/ideas that I have created that may help with this dilemma.
First let me address the issue of finding the perfect hair stylist. Not all hair stylists are good with updos or special occasion styles. Just like any other profession, stylists learn all aspects of the trade but usually fall into one or two areas more naturally than the others. Some are better at color, some at cuts, and some at styling. Make sure you see examples of their work so you know they are indeed good with bridal styling. Don't assume your everyday stylist can pull off the look you want for your wedding.
Now on to finding the perfect hair style. Here are some tips that have been floating around for years:
The TRUTH is, you should try your hair a few different ways and see which ones works best for YOU. I have seen brides with long faces and high foreheads wear their hair back and up and look fabulous. It really all boils down to each one's personal style and preference.
Here at Elegant Hair Designs we always do a trial run with our brides to ensure that we find that perfect style for you. After all, it is all about YOU, not what your stylist, friends, or the media thinks.
One little tip that I DO think brides should take into consideration is to follow the flow of your dress. A-line strapless, drop waist, and mermaid dresses look best with a hairstyle that is left down. Halter, tank, turtle neck and empire waist dresses look best with a style that is up. If the dress has side roushing, consider a style off to one side. However, even these are just my opinions and tips. At the end of the day, my best advice to you is PICK WHAT YOU WANT AND BE HAPPY!
We are very proud and humbled to announce that we have won the 2014 Wedding Wire Couple's Choice Award.
The WeddingWire Couples' Choice Awards™ recognizes the top 5 percent of local Wedding Professionals from the WeddingWire Network throughout the United States and Canada that demonstrate excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism. Unlike other awards in which winners are selected by the organization, the WeddingWire Couples' Choice Awards™ are awarded solely based on the reviews from over 200,000 newlyweds. Awards are determined by a combination of excellence in four factors: overall rating (quality), total number of reviews (quantity), review performance from 2013 (recency), and consistency of reviews from year to year (consistency).
We love doing wedding hair and we are very grateful to all of the brides, past and present, who reach(ed) out to us for our services. It is awesome to be part of something so big and special in someone's life. Winning this award was completely unexpected and, again, very humbling. Thank you to everyone who has played a part in it.
So, you've just spent two hours and $100 to have your hair professionally colored. Now what?
Sadly, many people go home, jump right into their normal hair care routine, mistreating their newly colored locks, and then blame their stylist when the color fades or the ends feel like straw. Below are some tips that will save you and your stylist from feelings of frustration.
Never wash your hair in hot water! This is probably the most important thing to remember. Hot water opens up the outer layer of your hair and allows those precious color molecules to escape down your drain. And, unless you rinse in cool water, that layer stays open, especially when you apply heat through use of a hair dryer or iron, causing frizzy ends that will soon become damaged and split. Always use lukewarm/tepid water; basically the cooler the better.
Always use a shampoo and conditioner formulated for color treated hair that has been recommended by your stylist. Many shampoos contain harsh chemicals that can strip color from your hair and leave it feeling dry. Remember, you've just spent at least 2 hours and $100 (or more) on that gorgeous color. Protect that investment! Spend a little extra cash to get some good shampoo and conditioner that will make your color last and keep your friends jealous. We recommend Malibu Color Wellness or CHI Infra.
Always use a heat/thermal protector! Before you blow dry, flat iron, or use a curling iron/wand, spray the hair with a good heat protector. There are many different ones available and they all pretty much do the same thing...the key is to use one. If your ends feel especially dry you will want to use a leave in conditioner before the heat protector. We recommend Malibu Leave-In Treatment and CHI Set the Stage Blowdry Spray.
Always protect your hair from UV rays. UV rays are very damaging to the hair, just as they are for the skin. They will dry it out and fade your color very quickly. If you plan to be outdoors on a sunny day for a long period of time, or if you plan to visit your local indoor tanning facility, protect your hair. Many leave-in conditioners and even some styling products have an SPF. If you don't have a sunscreen for your hair, use a towel, hat, hood, or umbrella...anything to shade your locks. You will be glad you did.
To sum it up....protect your investment. Follow these tips and you will have hair that shines and be the envy of all your friends.
